Here at Phase, we're so lucky to work alongside amazing teachers and staff in primary and secondary schools throughout Hitchin. We're also blessed to work with thousands of wonderful children and young people every year.
Meanwhile, we see first-hand the ever-changing pressures that young people and professionals face inside and outside of school. While we're often focused on the doing - running workshops, delivering mentoring, etc. - we also believe there's power in stopping to pray.
That’s why the National Day of Prayer for Schools (NDPFS) is such an important date in the calendar. It’s a dedicated time when Christians across the UK intentionally focus their prayers on the entire education system, from the smallest primary school classroom to the busiest sixth-form common room.
We want to encourage everyone in our community to take a moment to pray for the school down their road. You don't have to be a seasoned prayer warrior; it can be simple and heartfelt.
Think about praying for the whole school ecosystem:
- Students: Pray for their mental health, that they would find positive friendships, have the resilience to face academic pressure, and feel safe and valued in their learning environment.
- Staff: Pray for the teachers and non-teaching staff. Ask that they be filled with patience, wisdom, energy, and a real sense of purpose as they invest in young lives.
- The Environment: Pray for the culture of the school - for positive influences, for strong leadership, and for a spirit of kindness and support in the corridors.
Sometimes, it’s hard to know exactly how to pray or what to pray for. Thankfully, the brilliant people at Youthscape have put together some incredible resources to guide you.
You can find targeted resources like:
- Prayers for additional support needs.
- Prayers for college and sixth forms.
- 5 ways to engage young people in praying for their schools.
These are ready-made documents that can help you focus your thoughts and guide your church or small group.
We encourage you to head over to the Youthscape website today and check out these resources, or simply set aside five minutes to pray for our local schools and the young people we are all here to serve.
